I am reluctant to admit that I am LOVING looking at new homes, McMansions if you will, with their fabulous walk-in closets, spacious master bedrooms, bonus rooms and gourmet kitchens. I even get a little fluttery when I see that a house has a 3 car garage and think of how I could convert it into an indoor party space in the event of rain. Here are some pics from a house went to see yesterday. One of the things that I like about this "certified green" builder is that they tried to preserve as many of the pre-existing trees as possible, giving the neighborhood a more "established" feel. Their commitment to energy efficient building materials, etc. doesn't hurt either.
I am a big fan of houses with side entry garages. The
Playground down the street from the house for kids to play on.
Sitting room/dining room area (ooooohhhh the parties I have dancing in my head...)
Bad shot of the kitchen (if you couldn't tell, the house is still under construction). Not a perfect layout because I think I really like the idea of a central island more and more. But it does have a counter with space for 3 or 4 bar stools.
The unfinished space over the 3 car garage, which I knew would make MrDrama get all fluttery, since he loves anything that he can do himself. There are 4 bedrooms (all with walk-in closets), 3.5 bathrooms and a finished bonus room/office as well.
View from the back deck. Love. The search continues...

I have to say as an owner of a home build in 1931.... BUY NEWER! Old homes are so much work, let alone the Victorian with the wrap around porch, etc. Otherwise I think you are fulfilling your blog title as a voice of insanity! LOL
Beautiful, but no charm!!! You can always put in walk in closets, fantastic kitchens, etc. Most of my friends have bought new homes and let's just say "they don't make things like they used to"--these houses are less than 10 yrs old and need new roofs, have plumbing issues and are falling apart at the seams in some cases. I'll take a REAL wood door over some wood fabrication ANY day! ;) just my 2cents!
As with any home, the builder makes all the difference with the quality. You have plenty of older homes that turn into money pits, just like some shoddily built newer homes. At the price point we are looking in, we are getting solid wood everything!
I also like new homes. I sometimes feel guilty about it, but I grew up in an old home- they take so much work! I'm simply not interested. I admire those that are, but older homes aren't for me.
Hubby and I actually live in a very low-maintenance townhome, and it's perfection for the two of us.
I love not having to take care of the paint or roof, not having to mow the grass, and looking out and seeing the gardners "tending" to the lawn.
And, you know, accidentally pulling up all my lilies while letting a huge ass weed grow RIGHT NEXT TO MY FRONT DOOR.
LOVE IT! NO SARCASM! *cries* :D
I'm loving that! I love our new home. I always thought I wanted an older one too. Glad I went this way.
