This could be/an everlasting love...
I love SitterCity. Since we moved away from any parental units and friends who would be willing to babysit at the drop of a hat (miss you guys!), I have been struggling to get some uninterrupted one-on-one couple time with MrDrama (see the hottie in the sidebar to your left). Sure, we have the occasional lunch date and dinners with other friends with toddlers, but it has been ages since I have had a bona fide (said in a Southern accent, a la O Brother, Where Art Thou?), genuine, get dressed up and go to dinner evening with just the hubster. Now that we have been settled in for several months, we are looking for a reliable babysitter, which apparently is the Holy Grail of parenthood.
I am not looking for long walks on the beach or cozy nights by a fireplace. I just want a responsible adult who isn't going to smoke in my house and steal my credit cards. I realized in creating my profile on SitterCity.com that I am basically looking for the 20 year old version of myself. I was a darned good babysitter back in the day and I was CHEAP (shoulda charged more). And the kids loved me. And I cleaned up the house. And I almost never ate all of the Girl Scout shortbread cookies from the pantry and almost never let my 2-year old charges overdose on Winnie the Pooh. Heh. Seriously though, I was a great babysitter, proven by the fact that some of my best "grown up" friends are the moms that I used to babysit for.
I am looking forward to finding a few good (wo)men to watch the Kid watch videos of Dora the Explorer. It could be worse - she could like the Teletubbies. Then I would really send her to live with the gypsies.

I'm interested in checking them out, too...we have no fam here to hook us up, either...
I used this and it was awful. I got some of the weirdest, unqualified people calling me. It sounds like a good idea, but I was not impressed.
I am hoping that all of the elementary education students that we have at our nearby colleges will be a great pool to pick from. I will post updates.
