"The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still."
I just got back from my church's women's retreat Saturday and I was blown away. It is refreshing to be real with people and to be spiritually vulnerable in a way that you don't often get to do in the hustle and bustle of daily life. One of the awesome things about attending church in Nashville is that you get to have amazing songwriters sharing their talents every time you turn around. Seriously. You couldn't swing a cat in this town without hitting someone who writes or sings or records their own music. Although I am not sure you would actually want to swing a cat. Funny expression. People sort of frown upon that sort of thing. Anyway...
One of the songs we sang was "Your Grace Astounds Me" (written by some ladies at my church)
You have done all that Your law commands
With Your outstretched arms You have stayed Your own hand
As I stand safe on this holy ground
God, Your grace astounds me
Back story (at least as I interpret it): you know the part in the Bible where the Israelites are fleeing Egypt and the Red Sea is miraculously parted by Moses stretching his hands over the sea? That is the part that gets me. I just imagine these women taking their baskets and carrying their babies and portable possessions and trusting some crazy looking guy with a long beard as they cross through on dry land. Not understanding. Likely fearful. Not fighting. Just trusting. What an awesome thing to be able to do and something that I continually struggle with - to just trust that God has got your back.

As I get older, I find myself relying more and more on specific verses to help me. I shall add this one to my list.
This is one of my very favorite verses! I love learning new things and worshiping through music (even though I can't really sing good at all)... but I'll get a new voice in heaven. :)
