OOTD: Toddler Style

Do you have any idea how hard it is to find a reasonably priced, non-pink winter coat for a toddler? I mean, seriously! I went to tons of stores this week looking for a coat under $50 that was NOT some vomitous hue of Pepto-Bismol pink for the Kid. Is it too much to ask, girls' clothing manufacturers of America, to have options for girls' clothing that is not all pink? And while you're at it, please stop making hoochie shorts for kids who wear Dora the Explorer underwear. Thank you.

Here is my rundown...
  • LLBean: cute jackets but surprisingly thin for an outdoor company.
  • TJMaxx: love this store but as usual is hit or miss for kids' stuff. Almost bought her a boys' peacoat but figured I could do better. Did find the cute hat and gloves, though (both in the boys' section - nice tip for all the girl moms out there).
  • Limited Too (now known as Justice): she is too little for this store and I dread the day when she actually gets to shop there.
  • Children's Place: Pink galore.
  • Gymboree: actually had a few options of puffy coats, but once again most were pink and one was white with polka dots and a bad option for an active toddler who tends to play in the dirt at school.
  • Janie and Jack: nothing under $50 - wonderful eye candy as usual and apparently this store is owned by Gymboree - who knew?
  • Crewcuts: Yeah right. As much as I love J. Crew, their kids' clothing prices are insane.
  • MiniBoden: great options for online, but I needed somewhere with the instant gratification of trying on stuff in person.
  • Target and Old Navy: as good as these places usually are at getting me to drop cash there, I couldn't find anything that wowed me.
  • Macy's, JCPenney, and assorted department stores: zip, zilch, nada.
  • GapKids: Finally...

We still have a super-warm ski jacket from last year as a backup, but this is probably going to be the go to jacket for this year. Let's face it, now that we are down South, we get maybe one snow a year which shuts down the whole city anyway. Search over. So that is what happens when DrDrama dresses the Kid.

This is what happens when she dresses herself. She looks like a freaking Creamsicle (a very cute Creamsicle, but a Creamsicle, nonetheless).

I am anti-pink coat too... (which is probably a double standard because my JCrew coat is "beet" which is really just a dark obnoxious pink.) This year we settled on a red pea coat from old navy. Last year she wore a tan Gap coat.

Adorable! My gripe about coats is not the color selection of boys coats, but the style selection (or lack thereof) Why are they all puffy? Why do they all have to feature footballs, or dogs on them? Is it asking that much to find a nice looking coat for him that isn't going to run me $75?

Vent over. thank you.

Definitely not a fan of pink coats either. This year, we went with a very cute red puffy coat (with flowers on the lining to satisfy the girl in her) bought on clearance at Macy's last year for about $25 - yay for bargains!

It definitely is hard to find stuff for girls that's not pink. And I'm not anti-pink at all. It just gets old. I'm still cramming M in to a boy's coat from last year, just because it's blue and plain.

Anti-pink as well... raised two daughters and avoided the color at all costs. My daughters, much older now (19 and 16) are very petite and still buy clothes from the Children's department. Pink is still a challenge, but even more difficult . . . finding something for a college student without glitter and barbie.

Best coat line ever CocoBonbon. They have adorable raingear. Kolette and Keaton have te cutest jackets from them that I get a million people asking me about whereever we go. (not sure she did winter coats this year though) You should always check ebay too. I got Kolette the cutest Gymboree coat (which was pricey in the store and sold out in Sept WAY before people were even looking for winter coats) for half the price.
